What I've been listening to...
I thought I'd change up the site a bit — I've prided myself in creating my own WP themes, but this time around, I wanted something very simple and fresh. I knew it would be white, and I wanted a heavy emphasis on text. But when I saw this theme, with the "album" view of posts with pictures, I was wow-ed! Plus, the heavy use of Garamond looks great. I went back to my archives and brought back the little photo of Mr. Biber.
In case you're wondering, I have no interest in Justin Bieber. This is biberfan.org, a website that celebrates old music, such of that by Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber. My latest purchase, however, as been non-Baroque... the music of Pepe Habichuela with jazz bassist, Dave Holland. This is a Spanish guitar album that's refreshing and passionate. While Holland does get some writing credits on this album, the bass is really playing second fiddle to the rich textures of guitar from the Habichuelas. Everything is close-miked, and the sound is great. This is music for relaxing too, for sure, and smiling too. Imagine a warm summer evening with good food and even maybe a few friends. Meanwhile, I'm still enjoying my fairly recent Cocset recordings, of Bach, Vivaldi, and Geminani.
