In college you could buy a book with all of Bach's chorales from his cantatas. Today, you can purchase this CD of all of Bach's cantata sinfonias, the instrumental movements that opened a number of his vocal works. The band is Accademia Bizantina, directed by Ottavio Dantone. It's a sumptuous recording, rich with trumpet, percussion when needed; organ concertato, all the colors really, that Bach called for. It really is beautifully captured music, with a real mixture of color and great interpretive care. What I miss in many cases is the "next" music, which of course, comes in that cantatas with which I'm familiar. 19 tracks, 73 minutes, by one of the leading emerging bands. There is such variety in the music that listening through seems like cheating somehow; each are savorable gems. Warmly recommended.
