Knee Play no. 2
I wrote recently of attending a concert featuring the music of Philip Glass with Mr. Glass and violinist Tim Fain. This recording from iTunes features Mr. Fain performing the same work he played for us in Richmond (as an encore): a piece from Einstein on the Beach. The movie, the live Glass experience, etc., is still on my mind. Having heard this live, it was performed better than on this recording. It was flawless. It's a technical exercise, but one that for me well-encapsulates Glass' style and schtick. This one track (it cost me all of .99) contains opening remarks from Glass. The piece may not mean much to you; for me, it was a fitting end to a fascinating evening of experiencing a composer selling his own work, his own art, and craft. I like the progression of the chords, I like the special type of virtuosity to perform this piece, and in the end -- it speaks to me.
