I love music.

I write about the music I like and have purchased for the benefit of better understanding it and sharing my preferences with others.

French Suites I am still getting through to appreciate the Glenn Gould Bach edition. This morning's listen includes the first half of the French Suites, which I note were recorded in 1973. It's only significant because it's as old as I am; that resonates with me a little bit, I guess. It took 39 years after I was born to find this album (or we could say, to acquire all of Gould's Bach recordings), yet it was around the whole time. What's also striking to me is how "modern" in some cases, the music sounds. Minus the singing along, the recorded sound had been done well and sounds good today. As much as Gould has influenced other artists to be more Gouldian, he's likely also influenced people to interpret less like him, as well. If I had to choose, I might choose the English over the French suites, but I am enjoying this reading, especially so for the dances that are most familiar to me.
