Baroque? Or at the least, ornate

In my travel to Lyon, you cannot miss the church up on the hill, next to the "mini" Eiffel Tower. The Notre Dame de Fourvière was built to remind everyone that Mary had protected the city of Lyon from the plague. It was built around the same time as the Sacre-Coeur in Paris. It was built in the second half of the 19th century, so it is not baroque, but the word comes to mind when you look at the interior. Thanks to a nice wide-angle lens, you can get a sense of what it felt like to look up and take in the color and gold. This perspective gives a sense too of the space, as does this one, for the rear view overlooking the city. As you walk up the steep hill to get to the church (and yes, there is way to ride up too), you'll encounter a rose line. And along the way, you'll see markers for the rosary. I recognized almost all of them, of course, as scenes as depicted in Biber's Mystery Sonatas. I think it would be a fitting place to hear them, don't you?
